Beware Yon Dragons

savior of the world

Sept. 4, 2025, midnight

Have you ever wondered how Jesus is the Savior of the World if not everyone goes to Heaven? Biblical theologians have numerous ways of showing that this is not an error or merely wishful thinking. One of the most powerful explanations of this is that Jesus is the Savior of the World because there is no other savior . He is the One and only Savior, and therefore, He is the only One that anyone in the world can seek to find salvation. Buddha, Allah, Vishnu, none of them can actually save. The only reason that people are not saved is not because of a failure in Jesus, but because of their refusal to submit themselves to His saving work. That beautiful truth, however, is not the one I consider to be the most fascinating aspect of Jesus being the Savior of the World; especially when it sounds like He is only a potential Savior (that is not the intent, I understand, but the analytical part of my brain makes it seem that way!). What I find even more amazing is the explanation that, in another way, Jesus actually is the Savior of the whole world. This is not meant in the salvation unto Heaven sense. Rather, in the sense that what He did on the cross (and its resultant effects) have saved the world from total destruction by holding off the final Day of Judgment. Consider it this way: the world was so sinful in the first century that almost no one recognized the Messiah, and the Jewish people who should have been the first to recognize Him, ended up killing Him. That is pretty evil. Thus, at the execution of Jesus, the world should have been judged eternally, and (as far as justice is concerned) almost everyone should have been sent to eternal Hell (even the Apostles ran and abandoned Him). Yet, that did not happen. Why? Because, on the cross Jesus saved the world from its deserved Judgment. Now, technically speaking, this would only apply to all the sins that were committed up until the time of the crucifixion, yet today the world still has not ended with its final Judgment. Why is that the case? And this, my dear friends, is the most fascinating part of the whole thing. It is because the sacrifice of Christ on the cross is continuing to be offered before God for the salvation of the world in the Mass. If that does not make you see the importance of the Church, and the magnitude of her duty to offer the Mass until the end of time, I do not know what will. The offering of the Mass is the very thing that prevents the world from being judged and condemned. Yes, there will come a time when God says enough is enough and He will bring that final Day of Judgment. For now, however, it is delayed because Jesus gave us time to repent. It is the salvation of the world that was promised by God, so that people could have an opportunity to repent. For the faithful, the sacrifice of the Mass is their current salvation which opens the door for their future eternal salvation. And, also, the sacrifice of the Mass is done every day until the end of time because it remains the potential salvation for all who will come to it and see it, and Christ Who is present in it, for what it truly is: the Salvation of the world.
