Doubting Bigfoot

Oct. 26, 2026

Let me make it perfectly clear, this is not really about Bigfoot. I do not really care if you believe in Bigfoot; and it does not make a difference what I believe about it. There, it is said.

Now, in case you do not know, there is a documentary that came out recently claiming that they had a new film showing that the famous film by Roger Patterson in 1967 was faked. According to the documentary's makers this "new" film shows a practice session wherein Patterson and his friend Gimlin were running through a practice session before doing the actual film. Just as a note, regardless of what you believe, the "new film" is pretty obviously a fake, but I am not a professional on the subject.

With that out of the way, I am actually only wanting to point out the comments about the film. I took a few minutes to read through a number of them. It could not be more clear that those who wanted proof Bigfoot was not real, said the film was great. While those who already believe in Bigfoot said the film was faked. I did read one person who gave a good synopsis about a few significant problems with the film, but just one.

That really is what we do, is it not? If we plan to believe, we find reasons to do so; if we plan to deny, we find reasons to do so. It applies just as much to issues of the faith. We let our deceptive hearts get in the way and we fail to be discerning about things. The prayer for God to show us truth (even if we do not like it) is rarely offered. How many times have you prayed, "Lord please tell me what is right even if I do not want to hear it"? Or maybe, "God please open my ears to You, even when I try to shut them". Consider it sometime. The humility of it is hard to reach. The results, however, are the difference between eternal life, and eternal death.
