Beware Yon Dragons

non catholic society

I had a run in with an AT&T employee the other day (I've always wondered what AT&T stands for; now I think it is Arrogant, Tedious & Thoughtless). They have often come onto our property (yes, they have an easement) to install lines, and do work on those lines. I have asked before that they would not come during Mass times (not a hard thing to figure out). They have always said Yes but never actually done so. So I asked the most recent employee who showed up about this. His explanation was as follows: you cannot ask us to work around your schedule, we come to do our work when we want and you cannot refuse us access. He even went so far as to point out that if I did hinder his access it was a felony because I could cause someone's death if he did not get the repair done. Note, please, that the lines he was working on were internet lines, not phone land lines. Cause someone's death? Really?! Gone are the days when people realized that the worship of God was something sacred and that they would avoid doing anything to obstruct it. Today the bottom dollar is divine, so Jesus Christ takes a back seat to them. Yes, if they worked around our schedule it might mean that they would have to pay a little more to the employee to wait until Mass is over; but apparently that is the rule which cannot be broken. In a Catholic society, everything would be structured to ensure that the activity of the Church is never hindered in any way, and people would fear being disrespectful to the Church. Alas, we do not live in a society like that. No, we live in a protestant society, and what pleases self comes first. Various foreigners noticed this 200 years ago at the beginning of what they called the American Experiment. Sadly, we have not learned from their warnings.
