I read a report that claims that nine out of ten Catholics who are raised in the faith from their infancy leave the church. The report went about to explain that the faith is compromised, and Catholic children are not being taught the fulness of the Catholic faith. The solution? The author says that stronger parish connections are necessary. That would certainly help, but is that really all that it takes? If we are strongly connected to a community of people who do not know their faith, or reverence the Lord any more than others, then our connections are going to be weak because our faith is weak. It takes much more than a few more clubs or programs to make people keep the faith. That really is the problem with the author's suggestions: he is trying to get people to stay in the Church rather than trying to get them keep the faith. If they keep the faith, they will stay in the Church, but if they stay in Church they will not necessarily keep the faith (I have seen it many times). The author does not once mention the idea of making the faith, especially as it is practiced in the Mass, to be more accurate in its teachings, and more reverent in its attitude toward God. Sadly, this is what is truly needed. Plus, this is what will encourage people to have community; and that means community with the right people! There is one place where the author makes the connection of people being captured by the world and led away from the Church. He says that the massive spread of cell phones has caused many to open themselves up to numerous sources of deception. Yes, the internet can get you more information, but it can also get you more lies. It can help you find many more people who want to destroy your soul, and the souls of your children. In the past we were protected from the lies of the world by the simple fact that they were not as available. That is no longer the case, and the devil is using it against us. From the reports I hear, those statistics of 90% loss of cradle Catholics do not apply to all parishes in these USA, just most of them. They apply where the clergy are ignoring the fact that the old recipe of modernism and entertainment do not grow anyone's faith except the demons. We cannot, however, be presumptuous about this. Anyone is vulnerable and can be attacked by the evil one. What are you doing right now to protect yourself and your family from being one of the 90%?
