I read in the news recently how our President is threatening to attack Iran economically. Then I read how Iran is threatening back. Nothing new; "we hate you", "oh yeah, well we hate you even more!" Most of politics is like that. It reminds me of the wild turkeys I see in the yard frequently. A Tom fluffs his feathers, and then another fluffs his feathers, and then the hens all wander around and look unimpressed. Same old, same old.
It is so wonderful to know that no matter how many people in the world "fluff their feathers" and show off that they hate Catholics and the Church, that they are unable to remove Jesus from His throne. He does not respond by "fluffing His feathers". We read in the Psalms that whenever the world tries to figure out ways to destroy God's people, then God, "who sits in the heavens", laughs at them and "has them in derision". He is not worried about their threats, and neither should we be.
We can be confident that they can even go so far as to take our lives, but they cannot take our souls. Our souls are in the hands of God, and nothing can take us away from Him. So whether their threats are minor ("we don't want Catholics around us") or major ("we will send terrorists to destroy you"), God is still in charge and tells us to trust that He will take care of His own. Blessed be God, and blessed be His holy name.
