I read an article that was critical of something that a priest did recently. I do not know the priest or the situation, but the article was obviously "over the top". The author was exhibiting a typical case of fault-finding. He was attacking his own priest on very subjective grounds.
Now, the truth of the matter is, yes, there are times when priests do horrible things, and during those times the laity do have the right (and sometimes the obligation) to speak against sin. I do not deny that. The question is whether some people are looking for scandal because they enjoy it.
It is true that we need to keep our eyes open (especially in the modern evil age) so that we are not caught off guard. Yet, do we watch for problems like we watch for snakes in the woods--to avoid it, or do we watch for it because we like tearing someone down? The motivation of the heart will make a great difference, and so we each need to consider where we are at in this.
The twin plagues of constant scandal, and the ubiquitous desire for being victimized cause many people to think they need to find something to be offended at so others can feel sorry for them. I pray that no one reading this has fallen to this, but we cannot be presumptuous. Look deeply into your heart and soul, and ask the simple question: when you discover a scandal, do you enjoy it, or grieve over it?
